A quick jiggle showed a ton of play in the lower steering shaft u-joint/steering box connection. This is probably the source of much of the steering slop. While pulling/replacing the shaft (#5)...

  1. just swap the XJ steering box if compatible
  2. determine if the MJ steering box can be rebuilt, else get replacement
